Clarification

Some people have been saying that our Twilight Saga: New Moon party is on opening night.

This is NOT the case.

The theater is booked for TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2009. The movie opens the 20th.

We have TWO showings: 7 PM and 9:30 PM

We are currently reserving tickets. We are having them printed this week. We will call you, if you reserve your tickets, when the actual tickets are here. (They are really cool!)

If you would like to reserve your tickets, please call us at Sweetbriar Cove: 801-423-1876, or email us at coltonsangels@gmail.com

Precious Moments and Quilting Updates

This little boy is such a cheeser! Every time I get the camera out he runs over shouting "Cheese!" and smiles really big for me. He makes me take a picture every time....not like I wouldn't normally, anyway.

He has been such a sweet boy lately. If I say "Let's go home" he is instantly outside, in the car waiting to be buckled in. If I don't buckle my seat belt he says "East belt mommy!" until I put it on. Sometimes he has even handed it to me! :)

He says "Keep-boo-boo" instead of Peek a boo. He wakes me up every morning by snuggling up next to me in bed before making me take him downstairs for breakfast.

He calls his cousin Jessica "Assy".....still.....We're working on that one. haha

He wants to be a turtle for Halloween. I only have the stomach part of the shell done. He likes to run around the house holding it up to his stomach yelling "Turtle! Turtle! Turtle!"

Also.....I updated my quilting blog. There are some really cute quilts on there, and a beautiful Jelly Roll quilt (I want the pattern!!!). Go check it out!

Colton's Angels Blog and NEW MOON PARTY!!!

OMG! I am so excited about the new Twilight movie, NEW MOON, that I can hardly stand it!!!

Colton's Angels and Borto Deseret Orphanage are hosting a huge party for New Moon in November. It is going to be awesome!!

They've booked 2 showings of the movie on the night of November 24th. Tickets are $30 and include your seat, concessions, a souvenir, and a donation to Colton's Angels and Borto Deseret.

Borto Deseret is an orphanage in Liberia that my mother-in-law is working with. They have a lot of orphaned and abandoned kids that they take care of. We can't send physical items over to them, because of the cost, but monetary donations go directly to food, clothing, medicines, and bedding for the children.

Colton's Angels has a brand new blog. They are a group of women who provide an annual scholarship for a graduating senior who wants to go into the auto mechanics program. They are also participating in the Festival of Trees this year. In addition to this, they are currently in the process of making comfort items for children and families who need to spend time in the hospital, blankets for fetal demise, and items for newborns in the NICU and nursery.

More details on the NEW MOON PARTY will be announced soon. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket to this party, please contact Colton's Angels at coltonsangels@gmail.com

I LOVE IT!

If you have not seen South Park Season 13, Episode 13.....go here and watch the full episode. It's called "Fishsticks" and features a really funny joke....and Kanye West not getting it. HAHAHAHAHA

Tonight, Comedy Central has been playing it back to back, instead of the scheduled episodes. It's awesome. I love it. Go watch it. Now! :)

UGH!

I am so frustrated with my bank. They used to be open on Saturdays, just the drive-thru for a few hours. A few months ago they decided to close completely on Saturday.

Unfortunately, most of my payments at work come in on Fridays and Saturdays. Can't make a deposit on Saturday, cuz they're CLOSED.

Of course, first thing Monday, bills come out of the account....before I can make it over to the bank.

I got a call last week about my account. I told the lady flat out that had they been open on Saturdays, I wouldn't be talking to her on the phone right then, and that I was on my way over to them. She replied with: "Well our Orem branch is open on Saturday." (I'm in Salem....25 minutes south of Orem) I replied "Well that's not very convenient now, is it?"

I am thinking of switching banks, mostly because they are closed on Saturday. Any thoughts?

HOW RUDE!

Taylor Swift was so cute when she won best female video. Too bad she didn't get to make a speech because of some JERK who thought Beyonce shoulda won. RUDE! I felt really bad for her. What do you do after something like that happens....LIVE?

In case you were wondering....

I'm sitting on my couch, watching the VMA's on MTV (using the Tivo so I can fast forward through the commercials, naturally) while I unpick ties. Fun fun!

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW MOON SNEAK PEEK!!
AHHHHHH!!!

I feel bad

Marshy has needed a haircut for a while. He was so good this afternoon. He usually fights and kicks and screams, and we all end up with scratches and bruises all over us. He sat in the salon chair so nicely. Angel buzzed the back of his hair, then got out the scissors. He hasn't let her cut the top of his hair for a while, so it was pretty long. While she was cutting his hair, we discovered that he has started to develop cradle cap.

I couldn't believe it! I thought only babies could get cradle cap! Angel recommended a good shampoo to get, and we stopped at the store to pick it up on our way home.

Bathtime later before bed was not pleasant. Poor Marshy. I felt really bad, scrubbing his head as hard as I was. But I had to loosen the dryness up. Then I spent the rest of the bath combing through his hair to get the flakes out. He was quite angry with me.

I'm not sure how much of a difference I made. I am going to have to do this for probably the next week. Poor Marshy! I feel so bad! It certainly explains why he wouldn't let me comb through his hair lately. It was one of those moments this afternoon where you go "Ahhh. Aw crap! I should've caught that!"

I hate moments like those. They always make me feel like a bad parent.

Stupid 20/20 hindsight. Can't it just be 20/20 all the time?

Where were you?

Do you remember where you were?
I do.

I was in Mr. Duncan/Mrs. Kuehl's AP Calculus/Physics BC class.

Brian and Nate had been talking about how these planes had flown into a building. We thought they were talking about a movie they saw.

Then they came over the intercom and announced what had happened.

WOAH.

It was kind of surreal. We didn't do much that whole day, just watch the news on TV in each of the classes.

Where were you?
(Also, go here to see a picture of the event from the Space Station)

WARNING:

This post may contain political opinions. If you don't want to read it, don't, but please come back tomorrow. :D This is the last politically charged post for a while. If you do, I welcome your opinions in the comments.

Mike and I have been having a lot of discussion at home lately about where we stand on certain issues.

Issue 1: The "I Pledge" video. If you haven't seen it, here it is.

My opinion: I think it has a lot of great things in it, and it has an OVERALL good message: Help out our fellow man.

Issue 2: The President spoke to the students directly on Tuesday.

My opinion: He is the PRESIDENT. He was encouraging the youth to do their best in their schoolwork. Here is a link that my friend posted several days ago to the speech. Read it. It is good.

Issue 3: "The president is just like Hitler, Satan, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il, and _____."

My opinion: He is the PRESIDENT. DO NOT compare him to Hitler. Hitler killed millions of people. President Obama has not. Comparing our President to a mass-murderer is not only WRONG, it is disrespectful. My husband grew up in a home where he was taught to respect our leaders, regardless of whether their preferred person was President or not. Maybe we should all take a note and try to do better at this. I was guilty of doing it with Bush (and I voted for him). Imagine how hard it is to be President of the United States. He has a hard enough time trying to decide what is best for over 305 million people. Not each person out of that 305 million+ people are going to be 100% happy. There is no way that that could happen, short of us all having the exactly same opinion as everyone else.

Issue 4: Healthcare reform.

My opinion: I'm not going to voice my entire opinion here, because I know that this is where I get into trouble with my family. We have had several arguments. I don't particularly want to get into an argument with any of my readers. I like you all. I respect that you all have different views on health care and its reform. The one thing I will say is this: Reform is needed, and it is not going to happen strictly in the private sector. Why should it? They are the ones who are loving how much money they get from health care. What motivation do they have to change, other than their customers would like them to?

I respectfully request that you go to my friend's blog here and read what he has written about healthcare reform. Maybe, just maybe, reading this will help us all communicate a little better with each other?

In case you couldn't tell, I am not Conservative OR Liberal. I am somewhere in the middle....more toward the Liberal than the Conservative, in many respects, but in the MIDDLE. We do NOT watch Glen Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, CNN, CNBC, etc at our house. We read what is available in PRINT and make our own opinions from there.

When it came to parties, George Washington said it best: "The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it."

Maybe we need to revisit some of GW's political beliefs and go back to our nation's roots? Maybe things wouldn't be so bad if there weren't only 2 major parties? I guess the only thing left to do is sit back and wait and see what happens, huh?

Like I said at the beginning of this post, I respect that you all have varying opinions on these issues. I welcome any nice comments. Please no name calling, derogatory remarks, etc. Please keep the comments as family-friendly as possible :)

FORTS!

Marshy's new favorite thing is to build forts. We build one pretty much every day on his bed.

He loves it. He plays really nicely in his room now, instead of making a mess downstairs in the living room like he usually does. It's a nice change for me, and he gets to have lots of fun.

Huge Project

My in-laws have some friends who recently returned from being mission presidents in Omaha. They collected ties and pieces of fabrics from the elders and sisters who were missionaries while they were out there. They also had them all write their names on pieces of fabric.
They asked me to turn the ties and pieces of fabrics into (a) quilt(s).
It's a big project. There are over 300 missionary blocks. But, it is really fun so far. I started working on the sister missionary blocks first.
They are having a mission reunion the first part of October, so they would like part of the quilt(s) finished by then. I have a couple of ideas for layout, so far, but we'll see how it ends up once I get all the blocks finished.
Keep checking back! Photos coming soon! :)

What was I thinking?!

When Marshy was 1 I made the above Dinosaur costume for him for Halloween. It was so cute. He loved it....except for the tail and the hoodie and the booties. He didn't really have a choice. I made him wear it anyway. It barely fit last year, so I knew I would have to get him something else this year. I let him pick. BIG MISTAKE!
He picked the turtle. I know, it's cute, but I bought the pattern and HOLY CRAP! There are 40 pieces, at least (I know because I just finished cutting them out while watching The Sound of Music on my Tivo....3 hours)
The pattern maybe only uses 20 of those 40+ pieces, but it's not so much that that I'm concerned about. I read the instructions. The shell is WAY more intensive than the dinosaur hood or tail from several years ago.
Anyway, that's my latest project. I think I'll go look at fabric tomorrow. It's all fleece, and I believe that fleece is on sale at Joann's, so here's hoping I find what I'm looking for! :)

Busy Bee Hive page

So, I'm doing this really cute Quiet Book "class" type thing at Gracie Lou's. Every 2 weeks we have to have our page completed to get the next one. The page due this weekend is the Busy Bee Hive page (not sure if that's the actual name, but that's what I'm going to call it.) Aren't the bees so cute?!
Cute little bees. I had to hot glue the eyes and the velcro to the bee. See how tiny the bee is? Those who know me know that I am seriously challenged when it comes to using a hot glue gun with small things....like gluing things into corsages at dance time. Yeah, so not coordinated. Tonight I burned the back of my hand, my fingers, the palm of my hand, and I almost glued my finger nail to my finger on my left thumb.

But look how cute this page is!!

I can't remember what this next page is, but I can't wait to find out tomorrow! :) Hopefully this next two weeks I'll get it done before the day before it's due. haha

Writer's Block

I'm writing a novel.

(This is where you laugh and tell me I'll never finish it. It's okay. I do the same thing.)

Okay. Stop laughing.

Seriously. Stop!

Thank you :)

So anyway, I'm writing a novel. I'm 163 pages into it. This is the furthest I have ever gotten. I've been working on it since June.

I am having writer's block.

I started to re-read what I've written so far.

I want to do a complete re-write.

I don't know. Maybe I'm a little too critical of myself, but parts of the novel are really good, some parts are just "eh" and some parts are bad.

Not that kind of bad! Bad like I had major writer's block and wrote crap to advance the story.

My problem is that I have 4 points: A,B,C and D. I got to point B. I know what points C and D are, but I can't figure out how to get there effectively. AAAHGHHHH!!! This is driving me crazy!

I haven't worked on it for a few weeks, hoping that would help. It did. It helped me right into a re-write of the first 16 chapters. UGH!

Okay, now that I've had my little pity-party I guess it's back to work.

Sew Little Time, Sew Much to DO!

Why is it that when I have a bazillion projects to work on that I come up with a brilliant idea for an original quilt?

Okay, it might not be brilliant.....

But I think it is!!

I won't tell you right now....I started making it tonight.

I want to see if it turns out, first. I am hoping it does. The picture I drew was awesome! :)

Also, I want to make another bag....thanks a lot MODA BAKE SHOP for posting too many cute things that I feel compelled to keep buying fabric and spending my money at Gracie Lou's. HAHA

I'm sure Shasta doesn't mind. I'm sure she's thanking you right now for posting the cute things that I feel compelled to make and buy fabric from her for.

In other news: Finished my feathered wreath mystery quilt top. Seamed my back. Waiting for the templates to arrive in the mail so I can get quilting! :) Put a client's quilt on in the meantime. Hopefully will finish it by Wednesday. It's HUGE. She wants a feathered heart wreath and an all-over heart. It will be fun. I can't wait! :)

Also, my swamp cooler is bringing in the fresh night air....oh wait, that isn't fresh air.....that is SMOKE smell from the Cedar City fire. UGH! I love the smell of campfire....when I'm camping! Besides, I can only take so much before the allergy medicine gives up on me and I stop breathing all together!

I'm really tired. I keep yawning. It couldn't possibly be because it is currently 2:37 AM, could it? Naw, of course it's not! Oh well. All the same, I'm going up to bed. Unless I fall asleep while I'm typing, which I have done in the past. I can type pretty well with my eyes closed. I even know when I make a typo and can correct it. Crazy, huh? I pride myself on being a good typer. The last time I took a WPM test I was clocking close to 80 WPM. SWEET, huh? :D

Oh, PS - Met baby Claire tonight. SHE IS ADORABLE! Marshy loves her. He says her name so clearly. It's sweet. He kissed her head and tried to grab her out of her sister's arms so he could have a turn....yeah, not so fast kiddo. Anyway....I asked him if he wanted a baby to come live at our house. He said yes. Still not sure how I am feeling about that idea..........maybe after he's potty trained and in kindergarten??? Thoughts?

FIRE!

Stupid fire!

Stupid fire making my allergies worse.

Stupid fire making my allergies worse in Spanish Fork.

Stupid fire making my allergies worse in Spanish Fork while it blazes in CEDAR CITY.

Stupid fire!
